Snow Emergency Procedures

 

The principal objective of a Snow Emergency declaration is to allow the Department of Public Works and the Police Bureau to restore a reasonable flow of traffic in the City as quickly and effectively as possible. The primary concern during a Snow Emergency is to maximize traffic flow on the City's main arteries.

Certain City streets have been designated Snow Emergency Routes. These routes will receive first priority for plowing or snow removal.

Designated Snow Emergency Routes are:

  • Columbia Ave./King St. from Rider Ave. to N. Broad St.
  • Orange St./Columbia Ave. from N. Broad St. to Rider Ave.
  • Chestnut St. from College Ave. to N. Broad St.
  • Walnut St. from N. Broad St. to Race Ave.
  • Manor St. from Hershey Ave. to W. King St.
  • Duke St. from W. Liberty St. to W. Farnum St.
  • Lime St. from W. Vine St. to W. Liberty St.
  • Marietta Ave. from Race Ave. to College Ave.
  • College Ave. from W. Chestnut St. to W. Walnut St.
  • Queen St. from Greenwood Ave. to W. Liberty St.
  • Prince St. from W. Liberty St. to Fairview Ave.
  • College Ave. from W. Chestnut Ave. to W. Walnut Ave.

In the event of a Snow Emergency declaration, Cars may be placed in any of the following municipal parking garages:

  • Prince Street Garage at 111 N. Prince St.
  • Duke Street Garage at 150 N. Duke St.
  • Water Street Garage at 220 N. Water St.
  • East King Street Garage at 150 E. King St.
No parking fee will be charged during the declaration period.

Whenever possible, these streets will be plowed curb to curb.

In the event of a Snow Emergency declaration, the City will advise the public through local media and the City web site. Cars parked along snow emergency routes must be moved within one hour of the declaration of a Snow Emergency.

Failure to remove a vehicle from a Snow Emergency Route can result in a $30 parking ticket and/or towing of the vehicle at the owner’s expense.

 

A Snow Emergency Hotline (717-291-4837) has been established to provide residents with information and updates related to a Snow Emergency.
