A PRIDE OF LANCASTER LIONS
(ANSWER KEY)

People often use the image of animals as symbols, and those symbols often appear as ornamentation on architecture.
What does the lion stand for? Lions have long been used as symbols of power, strength, vigilance, and grandeur. Imposing statues of lions were placed at the gates of palaces, temples, tombs, and bridges, where they stand guard. Sculpted lions can be found in many of the world’s great cities, including Beijing, Venice, -- and Lancaster!
These eight lions appear on, or near, buildings in Lancaster City. Go on an Urban Safari and try to track them down.
