Residential Preparation
General information on residential trash and recycling collection in the City of Lancaster
- Do not put anything other than approved materials - glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, steel cans and newspaper - in your recycling bin!
- Trash must be in garbage bags and not thrown in garbage cans loose
- Trash and recycling receptacles must be put out after 6:00pm the night before collection and removed by 8:00pm the day of collection
- Safe storage of all solid waste should be practiced to prevent the attraction, harborage or breeding of insects/rodents and to eliminate conditions harmful to public health or which create safety hazards, odors, unsightliness and/or public nuisance
- Each unit shall be provided with adequate refuse and recycling containers to contain all waste generated between collections
- Refuse containers must not be filled so that the lid cannot fit properly and all refuse containers must have lids in place
- The area around refuse containers must be kept clean
- The accumulation of residue - liquids, solids or a combination thereof - is not permitted on the bottom or sides of refuse containers
- Refuse bags must be securely closed. 6 bag limit, not to excede 30 lbs per bag.
- Prior to curbside collection, all solid waste generated must be stored in a sanitary fashion in refuse containers
- Chemicals, poisons, expolsives, radiological wastes, motor oil, paint in cans, fluorescent light bulbs, computers, tires, medical waste and batteries shall not be placed in or collected with curbside collection
- Dumping, disposing, spilling, throwing, placing or allowing another to place refuse in or upon any land, alley, street, highway, gutter or ditch within the limits of the City that is not a facility for regulated municipal waste is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
