Federal Style (1790-1835)
Similar to the Georgian style in materials and scale, Federal style buildings had simpler details and more delicate motifs. Characteristics include:
- 6-over-6 window sash with flat lintels
- narrow three-bay façades to fit on small city lots
- use of oval, elliptical or circular forms (such as arched dormers and fanlights)
