Georgian Style (1730-1790)

The Georgian style in America was a Colonial interpretation of English high style buildings. Characteristics include:

  • formal boxlike design
  • asymmetrical four-bay or symmetrical three-bay or five-bay façades with horizontal orientations
  • elaborate door surrounds
  • use of water tables and belt courses
  • 12-over-12 window sash
