Monday, April 9 through Thursday, April 12, employees for PPL will be performing nighttime inspections of manholes in the streets in the downtown. This work is scheduled from 7:30 pm to 4:30 am. Periodic, short-term lane restrictions and minor parking restrictions should be expected. Work zones will have lighting and lit arrow boards for driver safety. This investigative work is the prelude to a large conductor replacement project scheduled from mid-May to late-July, due to several failures in the downtown network over the last two years. Penn Waste will begin collection at 4:00 a.m. for the remainder of the week to allow them to get ahead of traffic and be able to collect all of the extra material from last week's cancellations. Please set your trash and recycling curbside the night prior to pickup. Thank you for your cooperation.

City Hall will be closed on Friday, March 30 for Good Friday. There will be no street cleaning on Friday, March 30. Trash and recycling collection will remain on a regular schedule. Reminder - Penn Waste will accept double the amount of trash allowed for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday customers this week due to last week's weather cancellations. Both the Lancaster City Visitor Center and the Recycling Drop-Off Center will be open regular hours on Friday, March 30. The Lancaster City Visitor Center will be closed on Sunday, April 1 for Easter.

UPDATE 3/23: Due to heavy snow accumulation on Wednesday, March 21, Wednesday and Thursday trash collection routes were cancelled this week. When multiple days are cancelled, Penn Waste cannot complete all routes by the end of the day Saturday, and by law are not permitted to operate on Sundays. Thus, the schedule changed from a one-day holiday delay back to regular collection for Friday customers, with Penn Waste accepting double the amount of trash allowed for Wednesday and Thursday customers next week. The snow emergency declared on Tuesday, March 20 will be lifted at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 22. Residents may begin removing vehicles from Lancaster Parking Authority garages and resume parking on snow emergency routes at 7 a.m. All vehicles must be removed from Lancaster Parking Authority garages before 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 22 or they will be charged the hourly rate.

First, we would like to thank the community for being cooperative and patient during this spring nor’easter. By declaring a snow emergency early last evening, we were able to get cars off the snow emergency route before the bulk of the storm hit – which is the primary purpose of a snow emergency. Due to the heavy accumulation, many businesses in downtown Lancaster closed this morning. This freed up garage space, allowing residents to leave their cars in the garages while our crews handle snow removal throughout the City.
